Rules for transportation

What can be transported to Poland
When transporting goods to Poland, it is permitted to send:

  • Small household items and accessories;
  • Long-term storage food (candy, cookies, dried fruit, etc.).

What is prohibited to transport
To avoid problems at customs, it is important to remember about goods that are prohibited for transportation:
  • Flammable and explosive substances;
  • Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances;
  • Live animals and plants without the appropriate permission;
  • Perishable products without proper packaging;
  • Money, securities, and items of high value without insurance.
Compliance with these rules allows you to avoid fines and delays at customs.

Without special permits, it is prohibited to import items of artistic or historical value, as well as antiques.
It is prohibited to import dairy and meat products in any quantity, from raw materials to finished products.

The list of prohibited items also includes:
🚫 Products made from the skins of wolves, bears, snakes, crocodiles, and other wild animals.
🚫 Stuffed animals and birds.
🚫 Products made from animal parts, such as ivory jewelry and wild bird feathers.
🚫 Shells and corals.
🚫 Preparations containing animal derivatives, such as bear or badger fat.
🚫 Rare plants, especially species that are threatened with extinction.

What can be transported from Ukraine to Poland?
Animal products that are permitted to be imported into Poland:
Restrictions on the import of fish and fish products into Poland:
When importing fresh fish into the EU, it is important that it has been gutted.
As for the import of caviar, the rules depend on the type. There are restrictions on some rare varieties.
For example, no more than 125 grams of black sturgeon caviar per person may be imported.
In 2021, the EU adopted an additional directive allowing the import of up to 2 kg per person of products that were previously prohibited.
The list of permitted products includes items that were previously prohibited from being transported and can now be legally transported when traveling or sending parcels to EU countries.

✅ confectionery (including candy), chocolate (including white chocolate), pastes, products for making beverages, and other ready-to-eat foods (containing or not containing cocoa);
✅ pasta, noodles, and couscous;
✅ Ready-to-eat foods obtained by swelling or roasting cereal products, ready-to-eat foods obtained from unroasted cereal flakes or from a mixture of unroasted and roasted cereal flakes or expanded cereals (e.g., dry breakfast cereals, muesli), as well as ready-to-eat foods made from rice and other cereals;
✅bread, rolls, cakes and pastries, biscuits (including crackers), waffles and rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products, as well as chips (including potato chips);
✅olives stuffed with fish;
✅extracts, essences, and concentrates of coffee, tea, or maté (Paraguayan tea) and preparations based on these products or based on coffee, tea, or maté;
✅roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes, as well as their extracts, essences, and concentrates;
✅miso paste and soy sauce containing a small amount of fish broth;
✅broths and spices for soups, packaged for the end consumer;
✅food supplements packaged for the end consumer containing processed products of animal origin (including glucosamine, chondroitin, or chitosan);
✅liqueurs and so-called cardinals.
How much alcohol can you bring into Poland?
*“Still wine” refers to wine that is neither sparkling nor fortified (e.g., sherry or port).
How many cigarettes and other tobacco products 
can be brought into Poland?
What products can be transported across the Polish border?
✅Honey – 2 kg per person.
✅Chocolate and chocolate candies. You can transport up to 2 kg of products in their original factory packaging, provided that these products do not require special storage and transportation conditions (e.g., refrigeration).
✅Cereals. Cereals are not specifically mentioned, so the general restrictions on permitted products that do not contain meat or milk apply – up to 2 kg.
✅Vegetables and fruits. Vegetables and fruits can be imported in quantities of up to 2 kg. However, there are cases when separate restrictions are imposed due to temporary pest control measures or other agricultural problems.
How much currency can be imported?
✅Cash equivalent to up to €10,000 may be freely imported into Poland. This amount will not be included in the total value of imported goods.
🚫Medicines that are classified as narcotic, psychotropic, or similar substances are prohibited from being imported into Poland, except in cases where they are necessary for continuing treatment in Poland. In such cases, importation must be separately authorized by the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector.
Can pneumatic and other weapons be imported?
🚫 By default, the import of weapons is prohibited. However, there are exceptions, for example, for sporting events, hunting competitions, protection of diplomatic representatives, etc. In such cases, a permit for import is issued according to a separate procedure, which includes a certified translation of documents issued abroad and obtaining a permit for weapons in Poland after entry.
Can plants, indoor flowers, seedlings, and seeds be imported?
✅ Plants, indoor flowers, seedlings, and seeds require careful consideration. In theory, importing plants from Ukraine is not prohibited, but it requires a phytosanitary certificate confirming the absence of harmful organisms. Obtaining this certificate can be a complicated and expensive process, so it should only be considered when necessary.
